Coyne Schofield, Cameranesi Help Power U.S. to 4 Nations Gold

Minnesota Whitecaps forward Kendall Coyne Schofield had a goal and an assist, while Buffalo Beauts forward Dani Cameranesi had a pair of assists as the U.S. National Team took a dominant 5-2 win over Canada to win gold at the 4 Nations Cup in Saskatoon. The victory marked Team USA’s fifth straight 4 Nations title.

Cameranesi assisted on Hilary Knight’s first goal of the night, just 1:28 into the game. Canada quickly answered back with a goal from Laura Fortino just over two minutes later.

Melissa Samoskevich’s goal late in the first period gave the U.S. the lead back for good. Brianna Decker and Knight scored 34 seconds apart in the second frame to take a three-goal advantage, with Coyne Schofield and Cameranesi picking up assists.

Coyne Schofield then netted her first of the tournament 41 seconds into the third period. Canada scored its second midway through the third, but couldn’t mount a rally.

Beauts goaltender Shannon Szabados played 40 minutes in net for Canada, making 18 saves.

Cameranesi finished second of all players in the tournament with six points. She and Coyne Schofield were tied for the tournament lead with four assists each. Gigi Marvin (Boston Pride), Emily Pfalzer (Buffalo Beauts), Amanda Kessel (Metropolitan Riveters) and Hannah Brandt (Minnesota Whitecaps) also took home gold with the U.S.

NWHL action resumes next weekend with Marvin’s Pride hosting Cameranesi, Pfalzer, Szabados and the Beauts for a pair of games in Boston. Kessel and the Riveters host the Connecticut Whale on Sunday. Single-game and pro-rated season tickets are available here.
