“I am hoping to continue to contribute to my team in any way that I can,” said Gruschow. “I seemed to have a different role between my first and second season, and I am ready to take on whatever my role may be for my third season, whether it changes or stays the same. We could not have asked for a better ending to our season last year, and I am confident that the Rivs will carry that success into this upcoming season. My biggest goal is to do what I can to help our team reach its highest potential.”

Last season, Gruschow was also selected to play in the NWHL All-Star Game in Minnesota, and she was a member of Team NWHL for its series against the U.S. National Team. At RPI, she led the team in scoring in each of her four seasons and is currently ranked ninth in points and tenth in goals in school history.

“It is an exciting challenge to defend our title, and we are ready to compete just like we were at the beginning of last season,” said Gruschow. “This year will be very competitive amongst the five teams, and we hope to stand up to our name of Isobel Cup champions.”

2017-18 NWHL Most Valuable Player Alexa Gruschow is returning to help lead the Metropolitan Riveters in their defense of the Isobel Cup.

The 24-year-old Gruschow was selected MVP by her peers in the NWHL Players’ Association after leading the league in scoring, with 22 points on 9 goals and 13 assists. She also had a league-best 4 game-winning goals in the regular season. In spectacular, highlight-reel fashion, the RPI grad scored the lone goal in the Riveters’ 1-0 victory over Buffalo in the Isobel Cup Final to claim the team’s first championship.
