August 3, 2018– Last season, Haley Skarupa played with the Boston Pride before getting the call to re-join the U.S. National Team. For the 2018-19 NWHL season, Skarupa returns full-time as a reigning Olympic gold medalist. The former Boston College star has signed with the Pride for the upcoming season.

“It has been an incredibly exciting time for women’s hockey after our team won gold, and this coming season will be a perfect time to continue the momentum and excitement for women’s hockey and the NWHL,” said Skarupa, a native of Rockville, Maryland. “I’m really looking forward to being a part of the growth of the sport and inspiring the next generation to achieve their dreams.

“I’ve been back training and skating this summer and I’m really excited to get the season started with the Pride. Earning a spot on the National Team is a lot of hard work, but I am up for the challenge to earn another opportunity. It is the utmost honor to represent your country and I never take it for granted.”

Skarupa had 2 goals and 3 assists in her five games with Boston last season before re-joining Team USA and playing in all five games at the Olympics in Pyeongchang. The 5-6 forward played the 2016-17 NWHL season with the Connecticut Whale, going 11-11-22 in 16 games.

Her offensive output during an amazing collegiate career at Boston College between 2012 – 2016 was startling. Skarupa, who developed in the Washington Pride program, scored 115 goals and added 129 assists for 244 points in 144 games. She was a Patty Kazmaier Award top-ten finalist in her junior and senior years.

With the U.S. National Program, Skarupa competed in the IIHF World Championships as Team USA won three straight golds in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

“We’re very happy to have Haley back with the Pride,” said Boston head coach Paul Mara, who is an assistant coach with the U.S. Women’s National Team. “She’s a great player who will continue to develop and be an essential part of our lineup.”

Added Skarupa, “I love the Boston Pride fans and they have a lot to be pumped about for this coming year! The fans are the best.”
