New Haven, Connecticut-- The Connecticut Whale took an exhibition against the South Korean national team 4-1 on Saturday at Ingalls Rink.
Stephanie Mock scored three minutes into the game to kickstart the Whale with a lead. The team played evenly throughout the first as starting goalie Keira Goin and former Riveter Sojun Shin traded saves.
South Korea scored its only goal of the game in the last five minutes of the opening period off the stick of defender Su Yeon Eom.
The Whale scored a pair of goals in the second, starting with a rebound goal by Sam Faber five minutes into the frame. Connecticut killed a pair of penalties on Cassie Dunne; the first for roughing, the other as a bench minor for too many players.
Special teams benefitted the Whale on the opposite end of the ice as Kelly Babstock sailed a rising shot that skied the water bottle. That stretched the lead to 3-1 with 17:17 to play. The game was sealed when Grace Kleinbach cashed in nearside at 11:40 to seal it.
Stellar on the other end of the ice was Laura Brennan, taking over for the final period. She made seven saves as the third netminder for the Whale in the game.
The Whale will start off 2018 on the road at the Metropolitan Riveters before travelling to Pittsburgh to host the Beauts at the UMPC Lemieux Sports Complex.
