Putting together yet another fantastic performance this weekend in New Jersey, New York Riveters forward Janine Weber is this week’s NWHL player of the week. The Providence College graduate finished with two goals and two assists in the Riveters’ historic comeback win over the Whale this past weekend.
Weber started off the scoring for the Riveters with her second shorthanded goal of the season as she sniped (now her signature move) a shot over the glove of Whale goaltender Nicole Stock.
With the Riveters down three goals, just 2:26 into the third period she netted her second of the game, sparking her teammates yet again.
Weber added an assist on Michelle Picard’s goal to bring the Riveters to just one goal away from tying the game. Then in the overtime period she added her final assist on the game winning goal to complete the comeback and her four-point weekend.
On the season, Austrian-born center is currently tied for third in goals (9), fourth in assists (10), and is in second place in the points race (19) behind Boston rookie Alex Carpenter.
Weber and the Riveters currently sit in second place in the NWHL standings as the 'Sprint to the Isobel Cup' continues. Her team will hit the road to take on their top-seeded rival The Boston Pride on March 4th, and finish out the season against the Pride at home on March 12th.
