Brooklyn, NY – The Connecticut Whale have signed forward Meghan Huertas for the remainder of the 2016-17 NWHL season. Huertas played four years of collegiate hockey with the University of Vermont (2011-2013) and the University of Minnesota-Duluth (2013-2015). She played in 120 games, notching 28 goals and 32 assists. In 2014-15, her senior season with the Bulldogs, Huertas had her best year statistically with 11 goals and 8 assists.The Boynton Beach, FL native played in the Junior Women’s Hockey League as a member of the North American Hockey Academy prior to attending school at Vermont.
“Meghan’s a tenacious player who will be an excellent addition to our team,” said Whale general manager Lisa Giovanelli.
“I’m excited to join the NWHL and proud to become a member of the Connecticut Whale,” said Huertas. “It’s an opportunity to achieve my dream of playing professional hockey and competing with and against some of the best players in the world.”
Huertas joins the Whale this week. Connecticut’s next four games are at home at Northford Ice Pavilion: Saturday (vs Buffalo), Jan. 15 and 27 (Boston) and Jan. 29 (New York). Tickets are available at nwhl.zone/tickets.
