Nicole Kosta Named NWHL Player of the Week

Nicole Kosta recorded five points in two games last weekend, helping lead the Whale to a sweep of Buffalo and New York. The pair of wins were enough to propel the now-surging Connecticut team into second place in the League standings.

Kosta got off to a hot start against the Beauts on Saturday, scoring her first goal on a short-handed breakaway by going bar-down on former National Team goaltender Brianne McLaughlin. Her second goal of the game came in the second period as she was able to shovel a shot past McLaughlin while getting drilled to the ice from behind by a Buffalo defender.

The Quinnipiac University graduate and Mississauga native wasn’t done for the weekend, however. Kosta showed her ability to not only score goals, but distribute the puck to her line-mates, as she collected three assists in the Whale’s 4-2 victory over the Riveters. She would finish the game tied with the team lead in plus/minus, at +4.

Fun Facts About Nicole Kosta:

  • Scored 123 points in 137 games at Quinnipiac
  • Only the 3rd Quinnipiac player ever to score over 100 points in a career
  • Set a Quinnipiac record with an 11-game point streak
  • Was a three-time ECAC Hockey Third-Team selection
