Former University of Minnesota assistant captain and three-time NCAA National Champion Meghan Lorence has signed with the Minnesota Whitecaps for the 2019-20 season.
“When I was younger, I remember going to Whitecaps games in Minnesota when the team first formed and they were playing independently, and I thought it was so cool that there was a chance for female hockey players to continue their hockey career after college,” said Lorence, a native of Mounds View, Minnesota. “Being a former Jr. Whitecap, I'm honored to have the opportunity to continue my journey and be a part of the Whitecaps and NWHL this year, to keep the tradition going for the young female athletes to have the same opportunity for years to come."
A goal-scoring forward, Lorence had an outstanding career with the Golden Gophers, winning three NCAA national championships in four seasons and recording 102 points (50-52-102) in 158 games. She served as assistant captain as a senior, ranking fourth on the team with 18 goals that year after leading the team with seven game-winning goals as a junior.
"I'm very excited to be joining the Whitecaps this season,” said Lorence. “There has been a lot of passion and hard work that has gone into the Whitecaps organization through the years to get to where they are today.”
Lorence will serve as a coach in the Minnesota High School Girls Elite League this season, while continuing her work as a customer success manager for a website platform company.
