The Minnesota Whitecaps have re-signed forward Haylea Schmid for her second NWHL season, and goaltender Allie Morse to her first NWHL contract.
“I'm excited to be back with this great group of girls for my fourth season with the Whitecaps, doing what we love, in front of the best fans in the NWHL,” said Schmid. “It was a pivotal year last season, seeing our fan base grow more after joining the NWHL and the impact we've made with the youth. I'm honored to continue to be a part of that legacy.”
Schmid was a member of the Whitecaps before their move to the NWHL. She appeared in six games last season for the team on their way to the Isobel Cup championship in their first NWHL campaign.
Schmid spent four seasons at St. Cloud State, posting 30 points (12-18-30) in 136 games for the Huskies. Away from the rink, Schmid is a client representative, working on national accounts in business insurance.
Morse was also a member of the Whitecaps before they joined the NWHL.
“I’m excited to sign with the Whitecaps because I know it’s both an extremely fun and competitive environment,” said Morse. “I personally want to improve my game, and by doing that I’d like to help my teammates push their own game. As far as team goals, the ultimate goal would be to repeat as Isobel Cup champs and have a lot of fun along the way.”
Morse played her collegiate hockey at Providence. She appeared in 40 games for the Friars, making 862 saves. She is a third-generation realtor and also coaches hockey.
