Connecticut Whale general manager Bray Ketchum announced today that the team’s home for the upcoming NWHL season will be Danbury Arena, the state-of-the-art venue in Fairfield County.

The Whale will host all of their practices and play their home games at Danbury Arena, which was also announced last week as one of the venues for Junior Rangers Girls Hockey, the new initiative of the New York Rangers. The arena has the capacity for more than 2,000 fans for NWHL games.

“The Whale are very proud to establish a partnership with Danbury Arena,” said Ketchum. “It is a truly great hockey arena with the amenities our team and Whale fans deserve. We hope to make Danbury Arena the home of the Connecticut Whale for many seasons to come.”

In addition to being the home of the Whale and an affiliate rink of the Junior Rangers, Danbury Arena is the venue for the Danbury Hat Tricks of the Federal Hockey League and Danbury Colonials of the NA3HL. The arena also offers Learn to Play Hockey and Learn to Skate programs, as well as hockey leagues, tournaments and clinics year-round for every age and ability.

“Everyone at Danbury Arena is extremely proud that the Connecticut Whale and the National Women’s Hockey League have chosen to partner with us,” said Herm Sorcher, managing director of the arena. “We understand the power of women’s sports and have deep respect for the incredible players and role models that represent the Whale and the NWHL. The Whale have the 100 percent commitment of Danbury Arena to increase their fan base, assist in their development as players, and join them in the mission to advance women’s and girls’ hockey.”

The schedule for the 2019-2020 NWHL season is expected to be announced by the end of July.
