Riveters Unveil New Sweater Design for Season 5
The Metropolitan Riveters are entering the 2019-20 season with a new look. The Riveters are returning to their roots with a sweater that is inspired both by the team’s iconic logo of Rosie the Riveter and the primarily white jersey they wore in the league’s inaugural season in 2015-16.
The Riveters’ new sweater features a red collar and blue sleeves that are broken up by three white stripes. These stripes hold a special connection to Rosie and to American history. Beginning on D-Day, Allied aircraft had alternating stripes painted on their wings and fuselages to help identify friend from foe.
The stripes on the Riveters’ new jersey serve as an homage to the women who worked in factories constructing aircraft, munitions and other war materials. Without them, an Allied victory in World War II would not have been possible, which is one of the reasons why Rosie the Riveter has become an enduring symbol of female empowerment.
The Riveters open the 2019-20 season in their new uniforms on Saturday, Oct. 5, when they face the Boston Pride at 4 p.m. at Pro Skate Ice Arena in Monmouth Junction, NJ. With a fan-first experience that includes great seats throughout the venue, affordable concession prices, free parking and post-game autograph sessions, a Riveters game is fun for everyone. Tickets are just $20 and are available now at NWHL.zone/tickets.
The new Riveters jerseys are available to order beginning today on the NWHL website and at www.theloyalist.com/riveters.
