NJ/NY – The Metropolitan Riveters have added a strong new defender with the signing of Samantha Fieseler, who played last season for Goteborg HC of the SDHL after a standout collegiate career at Mercyhurst.

Fieseler joins all-star Rebecca Morse, 2020 fourth overall draft pick Saroya Tinker, and Sammy Kolowrat of the Czech Republic National Team as the first four defenders signed by the Riveters to contracts for the upcoming NWHL season.

“I’m grateful to the Riveters for providing me the opportunity to continue playing the game I love and cherish,” said Fieseler, 23. “This gives me a platform to inspire young kids that any dream of theirs is possible through hard work and determination. I’m excited for my first season with the Rivs promoting women’s hockey in the NWHL.

A native of Red Deer, Alberta, Fieseler won a gold medal with Team Canada at the IIHF U-18 World Championship in 2014 (where she was teammates with Breanne Wilson-Bennett, who signed with the Toronto Six on Monday). She also developed her game at the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy in Kelowna, B.C.

Between 2015-2019, Fieseler played 138 games at Mercyhurst and had 15 goals and 23 assists. Last season at Goteborg HC, she had a goal and 4 assists in 30 games. She also scored a crucial goal in the relegation series-clinching game to keep Goteborg in the first division.

“Sam is a responsible defender who can also support the offense well,” said Riveters head coach Ivo Mocek. “With her positive attitude and winning mentality, she will fit perfectly into our defensive group and our organization.”
