DANBURY, CT – Amanda Conway, the winner of the 2020 Laura Hurd Award for the top player in Division III, will begin her pro career in the upcoming NWHL season after signing with Connecticut. The Whale drafted Conway out of Norwich University in the fourth round in the 2020 NWHL Draft last month.

Last season, the 5-4 forward was first in D3 in scoring with 32 goals and 27 assists for 59 points in 29 games. She also was named First Team All-American and the New England Hockey Writers’ Player of the Year. Before the tournament was ended because of the coronavirus outbreak, Conway scored the game-winning goal as Norwich defeated Amherst to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals.

“I’ve been dreaming about playing professional hockey since I was little, so being able to achieve this dream is incredible,” said Conway. “I’m so grateful for all the people who helped me along the way. I can’t wait to get back to the rink and meet my new team in Connecticut!”

For her 111-game collegiate career at Norwich, she is third all-time in D3 with 116 goals and fourth all-time with 188 points. Norwich won the NCAA title in Conway’s sophomore year.

“I could not be more proud of Amanda and the opportunity that lies ahead for her with the Connecticut Whale,” said Norwich head coach Sophie Leclerc. “Her passion for the game, dedication to her team, and natural scoring ability are among a long list of incredible characteristics that have been foundations in her journey to earn her this incredible next step in her career. I look forward to watching Amanda grow and share her love for the game with everyone within the organization and community.”
