Honorary Coaches Named for 2020 NWHL All-Star Game

by NWHL Media

The NWHL today announced the honorary coaches for the 2020 All-Star Game on February 9 in Boston. Team (Jillian) Dempsey will be led by Paul Mara, Caitlin Mara and Heath Gordon. Team (Madison) Packer will be coached by Andrew and Everly Raycroft.

Caitlin Mara’s uncle is Paul Mara, the head coach of the first-place Boston Pride and former longtime NHL defenseman and assistant coach of gold medal-winning Team USA at the Olympics in 2018. The Maras will be joined by Pride assistant coach Heath Gordon.

Everly Raycroft’s father is Andrew Raycroft, the former Calder Trophy-winning goaltender with the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs, among other teams in a decade-long NHL career. He is currently a studio analyst on NESN. Mara and Raycroft were teammates in junior hockey in 1997-98 with the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL.

“My staff and I are proud to be part of this celebration of hockey and the steps the NWHL has taken in our fifth season,” said Mara. “I know Everly and Andrew will have their team prepared, so Caitlin, Heath and I have our work cut out for us.”

Said Andrew Raycroft: “Everly and I are extremely honored and grateful for being chosen as the co-coaches for Team Packer at the NWHL All-Star Game. We are excited for the weekend of events and the challenge of going up against Paul, Caitlin and Heath’s team. Both rosters are filled with exceptionally talented hockey players.”

NWHL All-Star Weekend is at Warrior Ice Arena, the state-of-the-art home venue of the Boston Pride.
