New York Bolsters Blue Line with Courtney Burke

BROOKLYN, NY – Courtney Burke, who led Riveters defenders in scoring last season, has re-signed with the club for the 2017-18 season.

“I’m really excited to be back with the Rivs,” said Burke, 22. “A huge part of our core is coming back this year, so being accustomed to each other’s style of play should make things much easier at the start of the season. We had a great year last year and I’m looking to another fun year with this group.”

In 13 games last season, Burke had 3 goals and 8 assists for 11 points.  The 5-9 defender was selected to play in the 2017 NWHL All-Star Game.

During an outstanding four-year career at Wisconsin from 2012-2016, Burke had 18 goals and 90 assists for 108 points in 153 games. She was named Second Team All-America her senior season.

At Wisconsin, Burke studied Life Science and Communications. “I can’t thank Wisconsin enough for some of the best years of my life,” said Burke, who was raised in Albany. “It is a top-notch school and hockey program. I grew a lot there as a person and player. I would tell anyone to go there, as I wish I could do it all over”!

While playing for the Riveters, she works for the Manhattan-based recruiting agency The Atlantic Group. “I’m really fortunate to have such a great employer like The Atlantic Group that is supportive of my hockey career as well as my business career,” said Burke. “I work with amazing people.”

Burke was also part of the U.S. Women’s National U-18 team that captured gold in 2011 and silver in 2012. Prior to Wisconsin, she attended Shattuck-Saint Mary’s, where she recorded 66 goals and 164 assists for 230 points in 147 games and was a part of two national championships.

“Shattuck-St. Mary’s was the place I grew up,” said Burke. “Everyone there is trying to excel at their respective sport, which made me a better competitor and player. I made friends for life there. It is a special place.”
