“Juana and I are honored to represent the Whale and the NWHL and work with Girls on the Run and Cigna,” said Battaglino, who is also director of the NWHL Players’ Association. “Any time the players of the NWHL have the opportunity to help empower young girls to find their confidence and continue to have fun while playing sports, we’re going to embrace it. We hope NWHL fans will join us or support Girls on the Run in any way they can.”
Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd through 6th grade. Program participants develop their confidence, learn about building healthy relationships and participate in a community service project while becoming physically and emotionally prepared to complete a 5K. Cigna is committed to enhancing the health and well-being of individuals and families, and building healthy communities, with a special focus on those communities where Cigna employees live and work.
“Girls on the Run is a wonderful organization that helps unlock the full potential of the next generation of our female leaders, and it uses health and fitness programs to teach life lessons on leadership in an innovative way,” said Wendy Sherry, President of Cigna's Payer Solutions business and executive sponsor of this year’s event. “Girls on the Run recognizes that we can have the most impact when we teach girls at a young age how they can affect and connect with their communities.”
Said Nancy Woodward, Executive Director of Girls on the Run Greater Hartford: “Girls on the Run Greater Hartford is immensely grateful for the generosity shown by Cigna. We appreciate Cigna's support for young girls in their home community so that every girl knows and activates her limitless potential. Cigna’s support will help create a 5K experience for the girls and their running buddies that will show them how their goals have translated to an accomplishment.”
