The city of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Penguins have certainly shown a great deal of love to the National Women’s Hockey League throughout the 2016-17 season, most notably in hosting 28 of the league’s standout talents at the 2017 All Star Weekend last month. But the support from the hockey-savvy Steel City hasn’t ended there; last night, three members of the 2017 Isobel Cup Champion Buffalo Beauts team were warmly recognized by the Penguins organization during their NBCSN game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Having strong ties to the Pittsburgh area, forwards Ashley Vesci, Kelley Steadman and goaltender Brianne McLaughlin represented the championship Buffalo squad near the midpoint of the second period (and later broadcast late in the third) when Penguins media correspondent Celina Pompeani had a chance to introduce them to the packed crowd at PPG Paints Arena.
Vesci and McLaughlin are both graduates of nearby (and 2017 CHA Champion) Robert Morris University, where they represented the Colonials prior to their NWHL experience. Steadman, the 2017 NWHL All Star captain, is no stranger to RMU either, as she has been with the program for the past three years, two of which as the program’s Director of Hockey Operations.
The three Beauts in attendance were able to connect with fans throughout the evening while they took in the game. Both the Beauts and the Isobel Cup have been making the rounds to some of their favorite places as well as sharing the team’s iconic run to the Isobel Cup with various media outlets, including the NWHL’s The Fifth Star Podcast which recently featured Buffalo defenseman Megan Bozek.
Keep up with the Beauts’ adventures with Isobel on social media and don't miss your chance to see the Cup in the offseason!
