Who, What, Where:

The Connecticut Whale (4-10-1) will look to end their seven game losing streak while ending the impressive run of the Boston Pride (13-0-0), who haven't lost a game in over a year. The two teams will battle at the Northford Ice Pavilion at 7 p.m.

History:

  • The Whale managed a 2-1 lead heading into the third period the last time these two teams faced off on Feb. 4th before the Pride stormed back in the third period for a 5-2 win. Shenae Lundberg made 33 saves on 38 shots for Connecticut, while Meghan Duggan (two goals, one assist) and Alex Carpenter (one goal, two assists) paced Boston. The only Pride player with a negative plus/minus? Zoe Hickel, a -1 that day, and now a member of the Whale.

Stats and Such

  • The two teams have combined for 104 goals this season in 28 combined games, illustrating their respective fireworks; however, Boston is first in goals allowed with 18, while Connecticut is last with 66.
  • There is a high chance these two teams meet in the first round of the Isobel Cup Playoffs: Boston has already clinched the top seed, while Connecticut is two points behind Buffalo for third, although the Beauts have a game in hand. The two teams meet Sunday in a game that could decide their playoff dates.
  • Boston has the only positive goal differential in the NWHL at +37; Connecticut is tied for last with Buffalo with a dismal -17 differential.
  • The Whale blew two four goal leads in their last game, 4-0 and 5-1, in an eventual 6-5 OT loss to the New York Riveters.
  • Connecticut has dominated the first period of games, leading the league in goals scored with 21. However, Boston is first in goals scored in the second and third periods, with 24 and 19, respectively. The last time these two teams played, Boston held Connecticut scoreless in the third period, outshooting the Whale over the final two frames by a 27-10 differential.

Players to Watch

  • For Connecticut, Zoe Hickel faces off against her former team for the first time. She scored two goals against New York in her Whale debut last weekend, and nobody in Connecticut knows the Pride as well as she does.
  • In Boston, Alex Carpenter continues to roll in her rookie season, with 23 points (eight goals, 15 assists) to lead the league. Her playmaking has been a thorn in Connecticut’s side this season, and she has a strong chance to continue that Friday night.
